Pine cone wreath

Making gifts from the things you find when you’re out on autumnal walks is one of the best things about this time of year. You can collect pine cones that you spot on the ground, and then brighten up someone’s door with this colourful, handmade wreath

How to make your pine cone wreath

Step 1:

Explore your garden or local area and collect as many pine cones as you can find. Bring them indoors and allow them to dry out fully

Step 2:

Paint the ends of the pine cones, using different colours. You can pick autumnal colours, or choose ones that you think the person getting the wreath would like

Step 3:

Spread glue over the foam ring, then wrap the ring in the newspaper. This will make it easier to stick on the pine cones

Step 4:

Get an adult to help you cut a long piece of string. Tie a tight knot in the end to make a loop, then wrap it around the wreath and slip it through itself. You should now be able to tighten it and form a hanger for the wreath

Step 5:

Glue the pine cones to the ring, starting with the largest ones you have and then filling the spaces with the smaller ones. The wreath should look nice and full but still be circular

Step 6:

Use the loop to hang up your wreath or wrap it up as a gift for someone special
